Two bored hipsters strive to bring a world of undiscovered cultural and musical goodies to your attention by the most condescending, ironic and apathetic means possible.
Meet the Hipsters*
Paul A. Ab-Dul
Conceived during the consummation of love between residents of Seattle and Williamsburg, Paul A. Ab-Dul is imbued with superhuman hipster powers including intense pretentiousness, elitism, nonchalance and perpetual bedhead. Her parents, naturally possessing a fine sense of unironic irony, named their daughter Paul, and, because little Paul’s left eye was lazy and she looked so Israeli, they changed their surname to Ab-Dul–it all seemed clever at the time. Paul and her parents moved to the suburbs of Connecticut where she became just another one of those suburban kids with biblical names; but unaccepted by her peers, Paul returned to her parents’ roots when she turned 18, splitting time between Seattle and Queens. During this time, Paul became a regionally acclaimed dancer, teaching herself to sway minimally while staring at her feet at indie rock shows. After a disastrous neck-muscle tear in a freak Vespa accident, Paul retired from the alternative dance scene and became a professional cynic instead. One day, Paul became engaged in an intense debate over the merits of Bright Eyes in a local vegan cafĂ© with a stranger named Bobcat Cat–and thus a friendship and partnership was born–and thus Hipsters Don’t Lie came into existence.
Bobcat Cat
Bobcat Cat was born in a small New Jersey town. Big hair, big heels and tacky clothes were all around her, and would eventually influence her being. Her parents were fans of the hipster photographer, The Cobra Snake, and thus her ever witty name, the Bobcat Cat came to pass. Before she could walk, she was moved to a small suburban town in Connecticut, where she breathed pretentiousness and irony. There she grew up, and she moved to New York upon turning 18. She prided herself with getting involved with the city’s underground alternative music scene. Every night Bobcat Cat would go to a new club and meet the bands, meet the people held in highest regard. She completely immersed herself in the scene and soon became a special part of it. Unfortunately, because of a little mix up with a tasty, non-vegetarian burger, which was false, she was forced to think of something more creative to do with her time. Bobcat began to grow older and there was a strong desire within her to voice her opinions about the scene, since she had so much knowledge. She left the underground scene and instead of clubs and shows, she went to coffee houses and bantered with those present. One day, in her favorite vegan coffee house, a historic event occurred. Bobcat and Paul met eyes and combined hipster forces, creating Hipsters Don’t Lie and a long debate on Bright Eyes.
